Confession

Hi.  My name is Christina and I'm bi-vocational.

When I did a random search for the term "bi-vocational", almost every hit referred to ministry.  Seems like other folks just talk about having multiple jobs.  Interesting.  Not sure what to make of that but there 'tis.

I didn't think of myself as bi-vocational until recently when I realized that I was using all my vacation time from my full-time job (ministry) to go interpret conferences and work with novice interpreters.  Which means, of course, that I don't actually go on vacation anymore.  Hint: this is NOT a good thing.

I've also been finding it extremely difficult to transition from one job to the other with ease.  I know that I compartmentalize certain parts of my life simply because there is no easy overlap between the two...but it seems to be harder lately.  Might simply be that I'm TIRED (and getting older...but let's not go there, hmmm?).

I don't really know what I'm getting at here other than realizing that I'm gifted in both areas but bouncing back and forth between the two is mentally and emotionally exhausting.  I don't want to choose between one or the other.  Maybe part of the problem is that I feel like I have to do both with excellence (of course, that's kinda my personality) and neither can be a truly part-time gig.

Anyone else have experience in this area?  I welcome your thoughts/comments/feedback!

  1. Take a vacation; and if the movie Winter's Bone comes to your area, make a way to see it and get the word out.
The collection of essays Jumpn Jim Crow will help you understand aspects of the cultural history of South Carolina and navigate portions of discussions you encounter.
But you do need to step back and take a vacation.
